MRT: Nanjing Fuxing
On a rainy Saturday we didn't know where to go for lunch, until I remembered there was this Japanese themed cafe that I still wanted to try out sometime. Machikaka WaCafe is a simple but cozy cafe and is located a few minutes away from Nanjing Fuxing MRT. Since it has been featured many times in newspapers and magazines, my attempts to make reservations on the day itself have been in vain so far, until this morning. :)
You can choose one of the set menus or order a la carte.
We were quite hungry, so we both decided to order a main dish.
The Simmered Meat & Potatoes (NT$ 279) comes with several small dishes, a bowl of rice and a cup of Japanese Hojicha tea. The meat, potatoes and carrots were cooked to perfection. Although they were cooked in Japanese curry, the taste was quite light and the curry wasn't overpowering at all.
The Japanese Hamburger Steak (NT$ 279) also comes with a bowl of rice and several small dishes, but now all put together on the plate of the main dish. The handmade hamburgers were soft and very tasteful. The cheese on one of the burgers gave it an extra kick to it. The noodles on the side very salty and added an extra dimension to the whole dish.
The dessert, a mini sesame pudding with a red bean topping, came with the set menu and is not listed on the a la carte menu. The pudding was light and refreshing, and the red beans on top of the extra layer of sesame made it a perfect ending to this meal.
